Hi, I’m hactuss. I play a lot of splatoon 3 in my free time and I really enjoy the game. I experiment a lot with the ability system of the game to maximize my efficiency while fighting with any weapon. Howerver, ability farming can be quite a challenge, since there’s no straight way to just buy them. Recently, I have found a new optimization for farming abilities that I haven’t really seen anyone talking about. In this guide, I will go over the common methods of gaining abilities, as well as this secret technique. (Also, all links are clickable and will take you to the original page, mostly https://inkipedia.org)
“Brands in Splatoon 3 are kind of a small detail for the world building.” Is what you probably think right now! Brands actually have a function when it comes to the ability system. Brands favor and unfavor specific abilities. When a brand favors an ability, the chance of rolling this ability after leveling up a piece of gear increases 5 times. When a brand unfavors an ability, the chance of rolling it decreases by 0.5 times. Of course, this method will not guarantee that you get the wanted ability every time, but over time especially when farming passively, wearing the right brand can give your chance a little boost. Below I added a table of abilities in Splatoon 3 and what brand favors and unfavors them. This table originates at the splatoonwiki / inkipedia.org. I deleted a few rows and columns for less cluttering.
Here’s another table which shows gear specific abilities. I added this so you can see what abilities you need to farm for a gear specific ability.

Thank you for reading. It took some time to finish this and I just wanna say that the Splatoon community is awesome.
